How to SEO Optimise Blog Posts

SEO is an easy concept to understand, but bloggers struggle with it. There are frameworks that you can follow, but no specific structure. The easy option as a blogger is to ignore it and use your social media following as a reason to not require it.

We understand that time is a limiting factor for bloggers and understand that SEO is a total game changer. We help bloggers identify the best keywords to target and where to include them within their blog posts. Researching and finding a low competition keyword is not as difficult or time-consuming as bloggers think.

Our article on Custom Ghostcodes for Snapchat is a brilliant example of this; we identified the phrase Custom Ghostcode for Shapchat as having inferior competition, and the article was SEO Optimised.

Our article is now sitting in the top spot on Google and getting us a lot of traffic. Watch our video above to see us explain the placement of keywords that takes the article to the top spot in Google.

Tips to SEO Optimise Blog Posts

Use Yoast (Free or Premium)  Yoast SEO Plugin Here

We recommend using the WordPress plugin Yoast to help keep you on the straight and narrow with your SEO. There is a premium version, but the free version is an excellent starting point if your blog has yet to become a business.

Always Place Keywords in these Blog Locations

There are certain places throughout your blog post where you should include your keywords. These are within the Title, Headings & Subheadings, Introductory Sentence, Concluding Paragraph, Title Tags and Meta Descriptions.

They are not the only locations, but the most important.

Never Chase Too Many Keywords with a Single Article

Hubspot are advocates of not chasing too many keywords per blog post, less we forget they want to rank for as many terms as possible due to their Inbound Marketing business services.

If Hubspot thought that an article could list for more, they would SEO optimise their content to rank for more.

SEO Experts MOZ also recommends only aiming to rank for 3-5 keywords terms.

As a blogger, it is better to focus on a couple of long-tail keywords. A more focused approach gives you a better chance to rank higher on Google. The placement of these keywords throughout your article and behind the scenes will make all the difference.

Don’t Just Ignore SEO

Believe it or not, there are many bloggers who don’t focus on SEO at all. This is a sure-fire way to ensure that you only get random pockets of success. It may seem obvious, but as so many people do I feel it is worth noting.

The Extra Mile (Mobile Optimised Content)

It is also recommended that your site is mobile friendly. Google will primarily display blog posts on mobile devices that are mobile optimised. If you can make your content mobile optimised it will help your site.

  • Research 2-5 Keyword Terms
  • Title
  • Headings & Subheadings
  • Introductory Sentence
  • Concluding Paragraph
  • Title Tags
  • Meta Descriptions
  • URL
  • ALT Text in Images

In Conclusion

When you SEO Optimise blog posts you grow your audience, which can only be good for business. You have to help your audience gain access to your content, SEO Optimisation is the best way to achieve this.

Even if SEO is a weak point for you, at least have a checklist to place a single keyword in the important places throughout your blog post. Minor tweaks can make a big difference in blog traffic.
