For those of you who may not have seen yesterdays article, we are now live on Snapchat. You can scan the QR code on the right or you can search for Content_Academy to add us. As I was saying yesterday, I am looking at ways in which businesses can use Snapchat to not only engage, but also enlighten their audience. While this will certainly be an ongoing process, I do have some thoughts on how you can repurpose content for Snapchat.
As we know the demographic of Snapchat is predominantly 18 – 25 year olds, in terms of adults. Of course the kids are also on there snapping up a storm, but we are focused on finding and communicating with possible customers or clients. While this may see quite young, we are seeing a shift towards 25- 35 year olds now embracing the platform and this is where we want to be.
Much like Facebook when it started out, the audience on Snapchat is starting to mature and this great news for us content marketers. However the big question is, how can we convey our message and get our content out there on a platform that does not have a search or discover function?
While I will be diving into the question of growing your following as the week goes on, what I want to look at today is the content we can put out there and the ease at which it can be done.
How to Repurpose content for Snapchat
One of the major questions that pop up time and time again when it comes to Snapchat is, what can I put out there, what type of content is going to resinate with people on the platform. My answer to this is always the same and I know you should never answer a question with a question, but I can’t help it.
What do you put out on Facebook or Instagram?
This is the question I ask them and they generally proceed to answer with the usual, links to articles, photo’s and video’s. So what is the problem with Snapchat then? The problem isn’t with Snapchat, the problem is your perception of the Snapchat. There is no reason, with the exception of the links, that you can not put the same content on out Snapchat that you do on Facebook or Instagram.
Which content to repurpose content for snapchat?
If you take the time to look at which pieces of content have preformed the best for you over the last number of weeks or months, then these pieces could work very well on Snapchat. So what do you do with your best blog post on Snapchat? Well here it is in 3 easy steps;
1 – Snap your article image – Open up your website and take a snap of the article image and send that out as part of your story.
2- Synopsise your article – Break the article down into key points and record them in mini segmented videos on Snapchat, again add these to your story.
3 – Give a call to action – Once you have recorded each point, give them a call to action at the end. This could be to head over to your site to read more about the topic or it could be to send you a snap back with any questions.

It is as simple as that and you now have a way to repurpose content for Snapchat. If you want to see how this can be done head over to SnapChat and see what we have done with one of our more recent articles. Also you will get to see some snaps of me playing around with the filters.
I guess the message here is, while each platform has its over nuances and they are important to recognise, the delivery method is still the same and you can pretty much repurpose anything for any platform if you give it the time it deserves.
