[Video] How to create a custom Ghostcode for Snapchat

I have been continuing my exploration in Snapchat and one of the things I want to show you today is how you can create a custom Ghostcode for Snapchat. The Ghostcode is essentially a QR code that people can scan. Once they scan the code they will be able to follow you.

This is perhaps the easiest way of getting people onto you Snapchat as it does not rely on them remembering your username and then having to manually input that into Snapchat. Of course, Snapchat will automatically give you a Ghostcode that you can use, but we want to brand that code to not only make it stand out but also to help people make the connection between our brand and the account.

Create a custom Ghostcode for Snapchat

The first thing we need to do is head over to and log in using our username and password. Once we are logged in just scroll down to the bottom of the page and where it says “Community” there is an option under that for “Snapcodes” as you can see in the image below.

All we do here is click on “Snapcodes” and we will be brought to another page where we will get the option to download our Ghostcode or Snapcode.  So go ahead and click on “Download Snapcode”. Once we have done that and the file has downloaded, we will have our Ghostcode on our machine.

How to edit our Ghostcode

What we need to do here is get this Ghostcode onto our mobile device, there are a number of ways of doing this and I am sure that I don’t need to explain this to you. What I have done is, I have saved this Ghostcode in my Dropbox account rather that transfer it onto my mobile device and you will see why in a moment.

Download Adobe PhotoMix

If you then head over to the App Store or the Android Store, you can download PhotoMix and yes it is free. It does require you to have an Adobe account, so if you do not have one you will need to set one up, but again this is free.

Create a new project in PhotoMix and then go and find your Ghostcode that we downloaded above. To do this, select the “+” icon on the screen and you will get a number of options as to where to find the image you want. As I said, I have connected my Dropbox account to the app, so I select Dropbox and add the Ghostcode from there. You may have saved yours to your “Camera Roll” so you will need to select this option.

You can see all the options available on the right-hand side here. Once we have our Ghostcode imported, we then head to the bottom of the screen and select the “scissors” icon that says “Cut Out”. Then on the bottom left where it says “Add” we want to change that to “Subtract”. Then all we have to do is tap the screen to remove the white background in the middle of the Ghost.Once this is done we will have Ghostcode with a transparent background.

Adding your custom image

Now we need to find the image we want to use to customise it. So we go through the same process as before and look for the image we want to use. Once we have it imported it will layer on top of our Ghostcode. All we have to do here is, select the Ghostcode and move it up in front of the image. Once that is done we should have our Ghostcode on top, with our image coming through where the Ghost outline is in the middle of our code.

Then we save the image to our camera roll and we are good to go with a custom ghostcode for snapchat. It really is that simple to do and takes less than five minutes. I know that it can seem a little confusing when you are reading through the instructions above, so I have created a video below showing you how to do it.
